From her colorful organization skills, to her responsible/reliable nature and helpful tips and tricks, Monique could not fit the coaching mold any better. As the curriculum coach for our school's Arts & World Languages Department, it was an absolute pleasure to work under the leadership of Monique Douglas for six years. It was bittersweet when my colleagues and I congratulated her on a new professional endeavor, knowing we were about to lose something truly special. Even without a current replacement, I am confident our team has remained strong because of Monique's training, foresight, and intentional planning; as well as the systems she empowered us to rely on. As a first time teacher, working with Monique as my curriculum coach made a huge difference in my confidence and growth. She immediately took me under her wing and gave me practical strategies that I still use today in my classroom. Monique helped me learn how to plan effectively, think through lessons with purpose, and problem solve when things did not go as expected. What I appreciated most was that she did not try to make me teach like her. She built my skills while giving me the freedom and confidence to do things in a way that felt authentic to me. She was extremely organized and never shared information without first doing the research. Her coaching helped me feel prepared, capable, and successful in the classroom.
I had the privilege of working with Monique for four years at Sugar Creek Charter School, and it was an incredibly positive experience. As a beginning teacher, I benefited greatly from Monique’s guidance and coaching, particularly as an elective arts educator navigating the early stages of my career. My experience working with Monique Douglas was amazing. She was my curriculum coach for several years at Sugar Creek Charter School J. Frank Martin Campus. I teach TV Broadcasting. Ms. Douglas had the task of coaching the Arts, Language Arts, and Career and Technical Education simultaneously. No one else in the school coached multiple subjects at one time and I can't think of anyone during that time who could have done a better job. Her meetings were concise but detailed and to the point. Ms. Douglas is always honest, firm, and fair. She respected people's time and treated us like the professionals we are. If there was anything we needed when it comes to support, she was there and helpful. Because of her coaching, I feel it helped elevate me in becoming the North Carolina Charter School Teacher of the Year in 2023. To this day she is the best curriculum coach I've ever had.
